27 Mar A UKRAINIAN LOOK/CURIA
Their names are Alexander and Halina. They are uncle and niece. They arrived yesterday from Ukraine after 7 days on a bus. Alexander is 82 years old and did not want to leave his mother land, he was willing to wait for death, in peace and with a heavy heart for one more war in his country… Halina saw her father and the rest of her family leave a week ago and chose stay with his uncle.
In the end, Alexander could not accept Halina’s resignations with peace and agreed to leave, with his mobility difficulties, his walker and the certainty that he might not return to his land…
They spent a night with us at the General Curia on their way to Pisa where the rest of their family arrived last week. A Ukrainian seminarian accompanied them to translate… although there really wasn’t much to talk about…
We will not be able to forget Alexander’s look, his dignity, his generosity and his pain.
We continue with the doors open in collaboration with the Astalli-JRS Italia center…
