The Jesuit Refugee Service was founded by Fr Pedro Arrupe SJ, then Superior General of the Society of Jesus, on 14 November 1980. 40 years later, JRS continues to promote his ministry of “being with rather than doing for” our refugee sisters and brothers throughout the world. To commemorate JRS’s 40th Anniversary, Pope Francis has sent a letter in which he encourages all of us to “respond generously to this urgent call to promote the culture of closeness and encounter”.
