21 May PASTORAL ORIENTATIONS ON CLIMATE DISPLACED PEOPLE
Today we want to present the latest document prepared by the Migrants and Refugees Section. As Pope Francis says, “we are in the middle of an emergency.” The current climate crisis poses a threat to fundamental human rights and displacement caused by climate change continues to increase. In 2019, 24.9 million people were displaced for this reason * and floods, landslides, fires, droughts and hurricanes will trigger new displacements in the future. According to estimates, by 2050 some 250 million people will be affected by forced displacement and the most affected are and will be the most vulnerable groups in society. No place on the planet can feel free from this emergency …. We strongly encourage information, training and dissemination of this material as part of our commitments to Human Mobility.
